Vacuum Efficiency
Performance of the pneumatic pickup system on high-speed sheet-fed printing and converting equipment directly affects the throughput of the production line. Maintaining high suction feeder reliability ensures that individual sheets of paperboard are lifted and advanced into the machine without double-feeding or misfeeds. This system relies on a combination of vacuum suction and mechanical gripper actuation.
Sheet Separation
Porous or rough board surfaces can allow air to bypass the suction cups, reducing the effective holding force and causing sheet slippage. Enhancing suction feeder reliability requires matching the vacuum pressure and cup material to the specific grade of cartonboard being processed. Dust or loose fibres on the board surface can clog the vacuum lines, leading to a gradual loss of suction over a long print run.
Regular cleaning of the filters and optimization of the air-blast height are necessary to maintain clean separation between the top sheet and the rest of the pile.
Production Runnability
Inconsistent feeding stops the press, resulting in wasted material and lost production time. Variations in board flatness or curl can worsen feeder issues, as warped sheets do not sit flat under the suction head. Ensuring clean sheets and flat piles is the primary way to maintain continuous operation.
