Thermal Mounting
Heavy steel frames provide the housing for dies used in hot foil stamping and embossing. A heated chase is a specialized tool that integrates electrical heating elements to bring the dies up to the required operating temperature. It sits inside the press and holds the tooling in a fixed position against the honeycomb platen or backplate.
By providing a stable thermal environment, the unit ensures that the die face remains at a constant heat for the duration of the run.
Temperature Regulation
Precision sensors monitor the heat levels to prevent the metal from expanding beyond the tolerance of the registration system. Most versions of the heated chase are divided into different segments that can be adjusted independently. This allows the operator to compensate for heat loss at the edges of the frame.
If the temperature fluctuates, the foil may not transfer correctly to the substrate.
Press Compatibility
Installation requires a secure locking mechanism to prevent the heavy frame from shifting during high speed cycles. The chase must be engineered to withstand the massive tonnages applied by the press without warping. Because it must conduct heat to the dies but not to the rest of the machine, insulation layers are often built into the rear of the unit.
