Diffusion Apparatus
Specialized stainless steel or glass containers hold a packaging sample in tight contact with a solid adsorbent to measure the transfer of volatile chemicals. The tenax migration cell provides a controlled environment where the surface area and the volume of the simulant are precisely defined. This setup prevents the loss of analytes to the surrounding air during the incubation period.
Surface Contact
High tension clamps and inert gaskets prevent any leakage from the interface between the paperboard and the testing medium. Inside the tenax migration cell, the simulant sits directly on the side of the material that would normally face the food. This orientation ensures that the measured migration represents the actual exposure path found in a finished box and accounts for the texture of the board which might influence the total contact area during the duration of the thermal incubation.
Leakage Prevention
Labs use these cells to evaluate various materials including plastics and multilayer laminates. Because the tenax migration cell is reusable and easy to clean, it supports high volume screening of different ink formulations or barrier layers. The rugged construction allows for long duration tests at temperatures reaching one hundred degrees Celsius without deformation.
