Vapour Quantity
Measurement of the total mass of water vapour present in a specific volume of air regardless of its temperature. In a paper warehouse, absolute humidity determines the actual amount of moisture available for absorption by the hygroscopic cellulose fibres. This value differs from relative humidity because it ignores the saturation capacity of the air.
Drying Calculation
Calculating the mass of water per cubic meter of air allows engineers to determine the specific energy requirements for humidity control systems and cooling units in a print shop. When the temperature of the air changes, the absolute humidity remains constant unless moisture is added or removed. This stability makes it a reliable metric for tracking the absolute moisture load during long distance shipping where temperatures vary across climate zones.
Monitoring this value prevents the accidental introduction of humid air into a controlled storage environment when the external temperature is lower than the internal temperature.
Condensation Risk
Risk of liquid water forming on the surface of chilled paper rolls occurs when the surface temperature drops below the dew point associated with a specific absolute humidity. This state leads to edge waving and structural damage to the outer layers of the reel.
