Material Composition
Virgin fiber multi-ply paperboard represents the premier choice for premium retail packaging that requires high brightness and structural stiffness. Referred to as gc1 fbb in European trade, this material consists of a pigment-coated top side made from bleached chemical pulp, mechanical pulp in the middle, and a light-colored chemical pulp layer on the reverse. The mechanical pulp provides high bulk and stiffness, while the chemical pulp outer plies deliver high tensile strength.
Surface Performance
Excellent printability depends on the uniform absorption of ink across the double-coated surface. The coated top side of gc1 fbb provides a smooth finish that allows high-resolution offset and flexographic reproduction with sharp dot definition. Because the reverse side is also lightly coated or made from bleached pulp, it accepts simple brand text or instruction manuals with high legibility.
Packaging Application
Demanding retail sectors choose this substrate for cartons that must look immaculate on store shelves. Since gc1 fbb contains only virgin fiber, it complies with strict food-contact regulations and prevents taint or odor transfer to sensitive chocolate or confectionery. The board performs reliably on high-speed filling lines because its stiffness resists bulging under the weight of the enclosed product.
It also maintains clean, crisp folds that do not rupture during carton erection.
