Suction Assembly
A mechanical apparatus utilizing rotating suction cups to extract individual flat sheets or carton blanks from a feed stack drives the initial step of a high-speed folding line. Operating a rotary vacuum feeder ensures that blanks are drawn smoothly into the folder-gluer without damaging the edges of the board. This rotary design allows for faster operating speeds than traditional reciprocating feed bars.
Air Management
Precise control of the vacuum timing is essential to prevent multiple sheets from being drawn into the machine at once. In a rotary vacuum feeder, the suction must be applied and released at exact intervals to match the mechanical speed of the transport belts. High-speed systems often use air knives to separate the top sheet from the stack before the suction cup makes contact.
This separation prevents sheets from sticking together due to static charges or ink dry-back.
Surface Finish
The efficiency of the suction depends on the porosity and roughness of the paperboard surface. If the board has a highly textured or porous finish, the vacuum may fail to seal, causing the feeder to miss a sheet. Applying a clay coating to the board improves the suction seal, which ensures the feeder runs reliably at maximum speed.
