Fiber Plasticity
Mechanical deformation of virgin chemical pulp paperboard creates permanent raised relief images without cracking the top clay coating layer. In premium packaging finishing, solid bleached board embossing shapes high-density virgin fiber substrate using matched brass male and female dies. The substrate’s long fibers and high tear strength allow deep relief drawing without rupture.
Process scope covers warm and cold relief embossing on single-ply or multi-ply solid bleached sulphate board.
Coating Retention
Pure chemical pulp fibers provide high internal bonding and flexibility, allowing significant board stretch under male die impact. Specialized mineral coating formulations containing elastic synthetic binders yield under deformation without flaking or micro-cracking. Heat applied to the embossing die softens moisture and cellulose within the fiber matrix, improving plastic flow and setting sharp relief detail.
Precise clearance between male and female dies prevents pinching board walls, which leads to fiber cutting and surface rupture. Brightness on bleached board maximizes shadow contrast and visual impact of embossed graphical elements.
Impression Relief
Deep relief profiles require uniform fiber distribution and consistent moisture content across the paperboard sheet. High tensile strength allows complex multi-level embossing geometries without structural tearing. Embossed folding cartons retain structural rigidity and tactile detail throughout shipping and retail display.
Quality testing measures relief height retention under stacking pressure.
