Suction Control
Mechanical pneumatic sheet separation lifts individual paperboard blanks from the feed pile using timed suction nozzles and air blasts. Operating at the head of a sheetfed packaging press, feeder vacuum extraction controls the exact transfer of paperboard sheets onto the feed table without double-feeding or marking delicate surface coatings. Suction cups engage the lead edge of the board, lifting each sheet precisely as side blowers loosen the top sheets of the pile.
Substrate Separation
Heavy folding boxboard grades and high-density containerboard demand higher pneumatic vacuum pressure than lightweight commercial papers. Adjusting feeder vacuum extraction prevents misfeeds caused by porous paperboard surfaces or static attraction between freshly cut edges. High suction levels on thin paper substrates cause double-sheet trips, halting press speed and disrupting print register.
Conversely, insufficient vacuum forces fail to pick up stiff eight-hundred-micron board, triggering automatic press stops. Press operators tune suction duration, vacuum pressure, valve timing, and nozzle positioning to match the grammage, porosity, stiffness, and surface roughness of the specific board batch.
Press Stability
Consistent sheet separation maintains press operating speeds and prevents costly impression cylinder jams. Uninterrupted sheet flow prevents ink drying on plates during unwanted press stops. Efficient feeder vacuum extraction secures continuous sheet delivery across long packaging production runs.
