Temperature Management
Cooling equipment utilized in the production of laminated or wax-coated boards accelerates the solidification of adhesives and coatings before the material is wound into rolls. A forced-air chilling tunnel uses high-velocity fans to move cold air across the surface of the web as it travels through a confined housing. This rapid drop in temperature prevents the coating from sticking to the next layer of board in the reel.
It is positioned immediately after the application station and before the final winder.
Solidification Process
Cold air streams directed at the moving substrate remove the latent heat from the liquid barrier layer. Within the forced-air chilling tunnel, the air temperature is maintained by a refrigeration unit to ensure a constant cooling rate regardless of the ambient mill conditions. This speed is synchronized with the line speed to guarantee that the surface is non-tacky before it hits the first pull roller.
If the cooling is insufficient, the coating may smear or pick off onto the machinery.
Reel Integrity
Correct placement of the tunnel prevents blocking in the finished reels. This equipment is essential for high-speed extrusion coating lines. Proper maintenance of the air filters ensures consistent airflow and cooling performance.
