Disintegration Equipment
Industrial agitation vessels process secondary fibers at high solids levels to maximize chemical action and minimize fiber damage. The high consistency pulper operates at pulp concentrations between twelve and eighteen percent to break down tough packaging materials and boards. This equipment uses a specialized rotor to generate intensive fiber-to-fiber friction rather than using high impact forces.
Disintegrating paper at this concentration reduces energy use and speeds up chemical reactions.
Mechanical Action
High fiber concentrations create a thick slurry that moves slowly within the tub, which increases the shear forces transmitted through the mixture. Within the high consistency pulper, a large helical rotor creates a toroidal flow pattern that forces the paper blocks to rub against each other. This intense friction quickly strips away polymeric films, wax coatings, and hot-melt adhesives without cutting them into tiny fragments.
Keeping non-fibrous materials in large pieces is helpful because they are much easier to screen out downstream. Consequently, this equipment is highly effective for processing wet-strength boards and heavily printed packaging.
Energy Efficiency
Working with less water means that less steam is required to heat the slurry for chemical treatments. This thermal efficiency lowers operating costs and reduces the environmental impact of recycled paper mill operations.
