Radiation Measurement
Non contact sensors detect the infrared energy emitted by a surface to determine its temperature without making physical contact. Thermal imaging pyrometry uses a camera to capture a complete heat map of a die or a moving web of paper. This allows operators to see the temperature distribution across a large area simultaneously.
In hot foil stamping, it is used to ensure that the entire heated chase is at the correct operating temperature before the run begins.
Thermal Mapping
Visual displays show hot and cold spots as different colors on a monitor. If a heating element in the press has failed, thermal imaging pyrometry will identify the exact location of the problem immediately. This prevents the production of waste that would occur if the operator had to rely on single point thermometers.
The system can also monitor the cooling of the board after it leaves a heated nip to ensure the adhesive is setting correctly.
Process Consistency
Maintaining a steady temperature is necessary for high speed converting lines. Small changes in heat can alter the viscosity of coatings or the performance of foil adhesives. By integrating these sensors into the control system, the machine can automatically adjust the power to the heaters to compensate for changes in ambient temperature or machine speed.
This ensures a uniform product from the start of the roll to the end.
