Barrier Structure
Multi-layer flexible packaging materials restrict the transmission of water vapor to protect dry or sensitive products from environmental humidity. These high moisture barrier laminates combine polymer films, metal foils, and specialized coatings to form a highly resistant shield. They are designed for food, medical devices, and industrial powders that would spoil or clump when exposed to ambient moisture.
By preventing water vapor transmission, these structures ensure the long-term integrity of the packaged goods.
Layer Chemistry
Combining different materials with specific resistive properties enables the composite structure to achieve very low water vapor transmission rates. Modern high moisture barrier laminates often include a layer of aluminum foil or a vacuum-deposited metalized layer sandwiched between protective polymer layers like polyethylene or polyester. The choice of adhesive and the thickness of the barrier layers are tailored to the specific shelf-life requirements of the product.
Through precise co-extrusion or lamination, manufacturers construct a material that blocks gaseous diffusion without sacrificing mechanical flexibility.
Quality Maintenance
Preventing moisture ingress extends the storage life of hygroscopic goods and preserves their physical properties. In dry food packaging, high moisture barrier laminates eliminate the risk of product degradation during shipping and warehousing. The materials maintain their functional protective qualities even when exposed to high humidity and temperature fluctuations.
