Certification Boundary
Audit parameters for the chain of custody specify the products or physical sites covered by a sustainability claim within a forest certification scheme. Defining the pefc scope lines is a necessary step for any paper mill or printer seeking to sell certified sustainable products.
Audit Perimeter
The scope identifies which manufacturing units are covered by the certificate and which forest products are eligible for the label. It lists the specific species of wood and the geographical origin of the raw material. An auditor verifies that the company has systems in place to separate certified fibre from uncertified sources.
This prevents the mixing of controversial timber. The documentation also specifies whether the claim is based on physical separation or a volume credit method. Updates to these boundaries are required whenever a company adds a new production line or changes its sourcing policy.
Labeling Restriction
A product cannot carry the logo unless it falls entirely within the parameters defined in the official certificate. The use of the trademark is restricted to the specific items and brand names listed in the public database. Any activity outside these lines is treated as uncertified and cannot be used to make environmental claims to the consumer.
