Fibre Integrity
Primary paper stock made from unbleached chemical pulp maintains structural coherence through wet strength resin additives. Virgin kraftliner wet strength denotes a material composition designed to resist degradation when exposed to moisture or direct contact with aqueous solutions. Resin agents link the cellulose fibres to prevent the sheet from losing its rigidity in humid environments.
The chemical treatment allows the board to sustain load bearing properties during automated filling operations or storage in chilled supply chains. High performance requirements often dictate the inclusion of these bonding polymers at the machine chest before the sheet formation begins.
Operational Tolerance
Converting lines and corrugated box plants require substrates that withstand water based adhesive application without fiber swelling or sheet breakage. Wet strength additives function by crosslinking the hydroxyl groups on the fibers to stop water molecules from weakening the hydrogen bonds between them. Excessive amounts of resin potentially interfere with downstream repulping processes during the recycling cycle of the packaging.
Proper application rates remain balanced to ensure the performance reaches the target threshold while maintaining cost efficiency for the producer. Accurate measurement occurs through soak tests where the ratio of wet tensile strength to dry tensile strength identifies the efficiency of the additive package.
Material Specification
Packaging engineers select these specialized liner grades for agricultural produce containers or bulk liquid shipping containers that encounter condensation. Standard kraft liners undergo rapid softening upon water saturation but this variant retains enough physical geometry to protect product integrity. Resistance levels depend on the concentration of the polyamide epichlorohydrin resin integrated into the pulp slurry.
Precise control over the wet end chemistry prevents inconsistent performance across the machine direction of the paper roll. Uniform resin distribution prevents localized weak spots that fail under the pressure of vertical stacking in high humidity conditions.
