Substrate Specification
Multi-layer recycled folding boxboard featuring a white pigment-coated top liner and a grey recycled inner core provides an economical packaging substrate for non-sensitive consumer goods. Standard recycled board GD2 grade complies with European paperboard classifications, specifying a double or triple coated top surface made from bleached chemical pulp or selected recovered fibers, backed by secondary fiber plies. This grade balances printability and stiffness for dry food, household, and hardware packaging applications.
Structural Composition
Machine production builds board thickness through multi-ply sheet formation on cylinder or twin-wire paper machines. The core and reverse plies of recycled board GD2 grade consist of sorted post-consumer and post-industrial waste paper, giving the reverse side its characteristic grey tone. Clay and calcium carbonate coating formulations applied to the top surface produce a smooth, bright printing background suitable for high-resolution offset and flexographic printing.
Grammages typically range from two hundred and fifty to over four hundred and fifty grams per square meter, providing predictable bending stiffness and crease performance during high-speed carton folding. Moisture variation between plies must be tightly controlled to prevent board curling in automatic filling lines.
Converting Limit
Secondary fiber plies exhibit lower internal bond strength than virgin fiber structures. Deep scoring or sharp right-angle folds cause localized delamination if scoring rule geometry is not optimized.
