Conditioning Schedule
Recommended time periods for storing paperboard rolls or sheets in the pressroom environment to reach thermal equilibrium before printing. Following a thermal acclimation timetable is essential to prevent moisture condensation and sheet distortion when cold board is brought from a cold warehouse into a warm pressroom. If the board is printed before it reaches the pressroom temperature, it can curl, shrink, or cause feeding jams on the press.
This scheduled conditioning process ensures stable board dimensions during the run.
Equilibrium Duration
The time required for the board to adjust depends on the volume of the paperboard pile and the temperature difference between the warehouse and the pressroom. Utilizing a thermal acclimation timetable involves keeping the protective plastic wrapping on the pallet until the board has fully warmed up. If the wrapping is removed too early, warm, humid air will condense on the cold edges of the sheets, causing wavy edges and registration errors on the press.
Larger pallets require significantly more time to reach a uniform temperature throughout the core.
Wastage Reduction
Preventing structural distortion in paperboard sheets ensures high speeds and precise print registration. Adhering to the thermal acclimation timetable minimizes paper waste from feeding failures. This secures consistent quality.
