Pneumatic Calibration
A back pressure pneumatic circuit determines the thickness or dimension of a substrate by measuring the flow restriction between a precision nozzle and the material surface. An air gauge sensor converts the variation in air flow into a discrete pressure value which represents the distance of the gap. This hardware operates without physical contact to avoid marring delicate coatings or soft fiber structures.
Thin films or specialized papers remain undamaged because only a laminar air stream touches the surface.
Dimension Control
Production lines utilize these components to monitor web thickness during the high speed winding of paper rolls. The gap between the measurement head and the moving substrate correlates to the thickness profile across the entire sheet width. Operators adjust the machine settings when the pressure drop deviates from the established norm.
High frequency sampling captures fluctuations that mechanical rollers miss due to their inertia. This detection method avoids the friction of mechanical contact and provides a stable reading regardless of substrate elasticity.
Output Fidelity
Precise monitoring of board caliper ensures that the finished stack height meets the requirements of automated packaging equipment. Consistent material thickness prevents jamming in feeders and guarantees that ink transfer reaches the intended density during the printing process. Errors in the pressure reading often trace back to contamination within the air lines or variations in the ambient temperature of the room.
Reliable hardware performance demands clean air filtration to prevent particles from clogging the small orifices of the nozzle. The instrument remains the standard for non destructive measurement in demanding manufacturing environments.
