Board Architecture
Heavyweight packaging material consisting of two fluted mediums and three flat linerboards glued into a single structure. A double wall corrugated sheet provides considerably higher stacking strength than a standard single wall grade by adding a second layer of fluting to the cross section. Most configurations combine different flute profiles, such as a large B flute for cushioning and a smaller C flute for compression resistance.
Compression Capacity
The total load bearing capability increases because the multiple layers of fluting resist vertical crushing more effectively under static pressure. Because double wall corrugated construction utilizes five distinct paper webs, the resulting board thickness demands specialized scoring and folding equipment during the box making process. It provides the structural stiffness required for shipping industrial components or bulk agricultural products.
Heavy duty containers often rely on this grade to prevent bulging when stacked four units high in a warehouse.
Conversion Requirement
Scoring wheels must be adjusted to accommodate the increased depth of the material without rupturing the outer liner. Correct pressure settings on the folder gluer prevent the heavy board from cracking at the creases. Accurate setup ensures the structural integrity of the finished container is maintained during high volume production runs.
