Creasing Tool Component
Phenolic, pressboard or steel grooved channels mounted directly onto cutting counter plates define the reverse folding profile of paperboard during mechanical die cutting. Packaging technicians position the counter creasing matrix directly beneath the cutting rule assembly to establish a precise female channel for creasing rules. Steel creasing rules drive top linerboards into this channel, producing controlled delamination of inner plies without fracturing exterior print surfaces.
The channel stops governing board deformation as soon as the carton blank leaves the platen bed and moves into folding sections.
Channel Dimension Sizing
Width and depth ratios must track board caliper and composition through rigorous mathematical guidelines. Channel depth matches the total board thickness under platen pressure, while channel width equals point thickness of the creasing rule plus twice the compressed substrate caliper. Hard phenolic channels withstand production runs exceeding several hundred thousand impressions without shoulder erosion, whereas paper-based alternatives degrade rapidly on recycled folding boxboards.
Incorrect width produces fractured hinge profiles, leading to inconsistent folding resistance on high speed gluing lines. Adhesive backings must remain stable against cutting plate steel under cyclic thermal expansion, preventing lateral creep during stamping.
Converting Line Productivity
Precision channel geometry secures uniform crease recovery force across carton flaps during automated packing. An oversized matrix channel fails to stretch the tensile plies sufficiently, causing high hinge resistance that jams carton erecting machinery. Undersized channels cause sharp scoring rules to burst through outer coating layers, exposing underlying brown fibers on pristine pharmaceutical cartons.
Production lines eliminate visual board fracturing by pairing calibrated matrix profiles with exact moisture specifications in solid bleached sulphate stocks. Matrix selection governs carton squareness and preserves structural crush metrics throughout the supply chain.
