Coated Board Grade
Multi ply paperboard grades featuring a pigment coated top layer and a bulky mechanical pulp middle section provide a balance of printability and stiffness. The designation folding boxboard gc2 specifically refers to a grade with a cream or manila back, as opposed to the white back found in GC1. This material is widely used in the pharmaceutical and food industries for its excellent sensory properties and structural integrity.
Its application is standard for cartons that require high protection for the contents without the expense of a fully bleached kraft board.
Structural Composition
Layers of groundwood or thermo mechanical pulp in the center provide the thickness needed to resist bending. Chemical pulp on the outer surfaces gives the board the tensile strength to withstand the stresses of the creasing and folding process.
Converting Performance
Printers value the smooth top coating for its ability to hold fine detail and high ink density. The manila back of the GC2 grade is less reflective than white versions, which is often preferred for certain traditional brand identities. Consistent thickness across the web ensures that the board runs smoothly through high speed die cutting and gluing lines.
Reliable performance in these machines reduces downtime and minimizes the risk of crushed or poorly formed boxes.
