Hardened resin sheets provide the female part of a creasing matrix during the die cutting process. Material Composition
Layers of paper or fabric impregnated with synthetic resin are compressed under high heat to form a dense board. The phenolic counter plate resists the heat and pressure generated by the repeated impact of the die. Because the material is dimensionally stable it does not expand or contract with changes in ambient humidity.
Precise channels are cut into the surface to define the width and depth of each crease.
Production Utility
Preparation time is reduced because the entire matrix is mounted as a single piece rather than using individual strips. The phenolic counter plate improves the definition of the crease by providing a sharp edge for the board to fold against. Using this method eliminates the risk of a matrix strip shifting during the production run.
