Press Adjustment
Initial setup of pressure and registration on a printing or die-cutting press prepares the machine for a specific job. Performing make-ready calibration ensures that the cutting blades, creasing rules, and printing plates are perfectly aligned and apply uniform force across the substrate. This process minimizes sheet waste and protects the tooling from damage due to excessive pressure.
Leveling Procedure
Tooling and press beds always have minor thickness variations that must be corrected before starting the production run. Operators apply thin paper shims to the back of the die or plate to build up low areas and ensure even contact. This step is repeated until the press produces a clean, uniform cut or print across the entire sheet surface.
Failing to perform this step thoroughly can result in uneven ink coverage, incomplete cuts, or premature wear of the steel cutting rules, all of which drive up production costs and delay delivery.
Production Saving
Efficient calibration reduces the time the press is offline between jobs, which increases overall plant productivity. Storing the calibration data for repeat jobs allows the operator to set up the press much faster next time. This systematic approach ensures consistent quality from the first sheet to the last, even on complex multi-colour runs.
