Continuous Conversion
High-capacity cutting machinery transforms continuous rolls of paper and board into individual planar sheets for downstream printing presses. Operating within finishing mills and packaging converting plants, a rotary sheeter coordinates unwind stands, tension controls, slitting units and rotating knife cylinders to manufacture exact sheet lengths. The system outputs neatly stacked pallets ready for multi-color press feeding without intervening cutting steps.
Knife Synchronization
Dual rotating knife cylinders match blade surface velocity precisely to web speed at the exact instant of cut. Synchronous drive mechanisms prevent web bunching and tensile tearing, producing square cuts without edge burrs or sheet deformations. Decurling assemblies smooth roll curvature before web slitting, flattening the stock so vacuum tape sections can shingle and stack the sheets cleanly.
Computerized length controls alter rotational speed between cuts to adjust cut-off length dynamically while maintaining blade timing at impact. Dust extraction hoods collect slitter and knife debris, protecting high-grade folding carton surfaces from contamination. Sheet counters and automated pallet changers maintain continuous operation without line stoppages.
Caliper Threshold
Extreme substrate calipers limit operational feasibility when excessive material thickness overpowers knife clearance settings. Heavy multi-ply boards above one millimetre thickness require dedicated heavy-duty cutterheads, while thick fluted corrugated boards crush under standard sheet transport nips.
