Material Specification
Multi-ply paperboard featuring a double-coated top surface and an uncoated cream or manila reverse side is widely utilized for everyday retail packaging. This gc2 grade provides a cost-effective alternative to premium white-back boards while retaining high stiffness and runnability. The mechanical pulp center provides the bulk needed to protect the contents, while the reverse side maintains a natural wood-pulp appearance.
Backing Color
The cream-colored reverse side comes from the use of unbleached or semi-bleached fibers in the back ply. While the top side achieves a high white finish, the back side is optimized for simple monochrome printing or left unprinted. This difference in appearance between the two sides makes the gc2 grade suitable for applications where the inside of the carton is not critical to the consumer experience.
It is commonly found in dry food cartons, hardware packaging, and simple pharmaceutical boxes.
Packaging Execution
Packaging designers balance cost and aesthetic needs by selecting this grade for outer boxes where the inner flap remains hidden. The high stiffness of the mechanical core ensures that the carton resists bulging when filled with loose products. During high-speed packaging lines, the uncoated reverse side also provides excellent adhesion for hot-melt glues, reducing the risk of popped flaps during shipping and storage.
