Mechanical Configuration
Reciprocating industrial machinery performs high-speed precision cutting and creasing of paperboard sheets through a flatbed pressing action. An autoplaten die cutter operates by feeding individual sheets into a gripper bar system that transports them between a stationary lower platen and a moving upper platen. Precise registration is maintained throughout the cycle to allow for complex geometries and detailed internal cutouts.
Converting Function
High-volume folding carton production relies on this equipment to transform printed sheets into blanks ready for folding and gluing. The autoplaten die cutter utilizes a steel rule die mounted to the upper chase, which strikes against a hardened steel plate or a counter-crease matrix on the lower platen. Beyond simple perimeter cutting, the process includes creasing to define fold lines and embossing for tactile branding.
Waste removal systems frequently integrate with the press to strip away external scrap automatically.
Operational Constraint
Sheet size and substrate thickness dictate the speed and pressure settings required for clean separation. Heavy boards require higher tonnage to shear through the fibres without bruising the edges. If the gripper margin is insufficient, the sheet may slip, causing registration errors or machine jams.
Friction and suction systems must be tuned to the specific surface coating of the board.
