Grade Composition
Premium packaging boards manufactured from bleached chemical wood pulp provide a bright, clean, and highly uniform printing surface. Solid bleached sulphate is a high-density, multi-ply or single-ply board grade that contains only virgin chemical fibers bleached to high brightness. This grade is used for luxury packaging, cosmetics, and food service items where cleanliness, taint-free performance, and high print quality are required.
The material’s application is bounded by its cost, being more expensive than recycled or mechanical pulp boards.
Structural Properties
The chemical pulping process removes almost all lignin from the fibers, leaving a long, strong cellulose network that resists yellowing and maintains its strength over time. Inside solid bleached sulphate, these long fibers are tightly bonded, giving the sheet high tensile strength, excellent puncture resistance, and good score-line folding characteristics. This board responds well to converting steps such as foil stamping, embossing, and high-speed die-cutting without cracking along the creases.
This performance makes it a preferred choice for high-end retail packaging.
Surface Finish
Clay coatings applied to the surface of the board during manufacturing enhance its ink holdout and gloss. This smooth, white layer allows for high-resolution graphics to be printed using offset or digital processes. This grade remains the benchmark for graphic reproducibility in the packaging industry.
